Afternoon Phoenix!
How’s everyone doing on this cold Tuesday? Thanks for joining us for another edition of
Tuesday Trivia.
Today’s subject is Sterling Chase, mate of Tavia, and father
to Aric and Carys.
Sterling was born and raised in Boston over a century
ago. He was part of the Darkhaven elite,
and comes from a well-connected, political family with deep ties to the Breed’s
Enforcement Agency. He holds many
degrees from Harvard University. His
rigid, do-it-by-the-book attitude earned him the nickname Harvard from
Dante.
Let’s look at what Boston was like around the time of
Sterling’s birth over a century ago.
·
In 1900, the population of Boston was
560,892. That didn’t count the Breed
populace.
·
1901 – Boston Red Sox founded.
·
1912 – Fenway Park opens.
·
1924 – Boston Bruins professional ice hockey
team founded, one of the NHL’s Original Six teams.
·
1935 – Boston Housing Authority established.
·
1936 – Boston Museum of Modern Art founded.
·
1942 – The Cocoanut Grove fire. The Cocoanut Grove was Boston’s premier
nightclub during the post-Prohibition 1930’s and 1940’s. On November 28, 1942, the club was the scene
of the deadliest nightclub fire in history, killing 492 people (32 more than
the building’s authorized capacity). The
enormity of the tragedy shocked the nation and briefly replaced World War II in
the headlines. It led to reform of
safety standards and codes across the country, and major changes in the
treatment and rehabilitation of burn victims.
It was the second-deadliest building fire in American history. It is estimated that over 1000 people crammed
into the nightclub to enjoy some Thanksgiving weekend revelry. The only main exit was a revolving door. Hundreds of people jammed the door in an
attempt to escape, causing firefighters to have to remove the door to gain
entry. Other exits had been bolted shut
to prevent people from leaving without paying.
Other interior doors opened inward, and were useless in the crush of people
pressing against them.
·
1947 – Future president John F. Kennedy becomes
US Representative for Massachusetts’ 11th Congressional district.
·
1955- Martin Luther King Jr. earns PhD from
Boston University.
·
1962 – Boston Strangler murders began.
·
1979 – JFK Library built.
·
1988 – Michael Dukakis Presidential campaign
headquartered in city.
·
1994 – Rent control ends.
·
2002 – Sexual abuse scandal in the Catholic
archdiocese of Boston reported.
·
2004 – Red Sox Win World Series.
·
2010 – Population 617,594 – metro area 4,552,402
·
2013 – Whitey Bulger trial begins (gangster
portrayed by Johnny Depp in the movie Black Mass)
·

Have a fangtastic day my friends!<3 Brock V"""V
