Good morning Phoenix, and welcome once more to Trivia
Tuesday. Today, we’re going to highlight a subject near and dear to Jordana’s
heart – museums.
According to the Museums of the World, there are about
55,000 museums in 202 countries. There are science museums, history museums,
military museums, outdoor museums, and virtual museums. The possibilities are
endless, so let’s just take a look at a few facts about museums.
Museum management positions:
• Curator - research the collection and most often write the
text labels for exhibitions
• Collections Management/Registrar - responsible for the
care and maintenance of all objects in the museum’s collection, tracks movement
of objects in and out of the museum on loan or on exhibition, records
information about objects in databases-such as an object's provenance.
• Public Programmer/Educator - creates programs for the
public and designs interactives for exhibitions. This position also oversees
volunteers and docents at the museum.
• Exhibition Designer - designs and installs the exhibition
under the supervision of the curator and collections manager.
• Building Operators - oversee security and maintenance of
the museum. In larger museums, building operators will work with Collections
Managers to maintain appropriate levels of temperature and humidity which can
affect the stability of the objects.
The top 10 museums in the world are:
• The Louvre, Paris – This is where you’ll find the Mona
Lisa.
• The Hermitage, St. Petersburg Russia – Houses the world’s
largest collection of paintings.
• The British Museum, London - The highlight is the Elgin
Marbles that once decorated the Parthenon in Athens.
• The Egyptian Museum, Cairo - Among the thousands of
treasures (which includes the popular Mummy Room) are the famous artifacts from
Tutankhamun's tomb.
• Uffizi, Florence – This 16th century palace holds among
its treasures Botticelli’s famous Birth of Venus.
• The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met), New York City -
It holds more than 2 million works from around the world, from pre-history to
the 21st century.
• MOMA (The Museum of Modern Art), New York City - This is
the most important modern art museum in the world. It covers the late 19th
century to the present day, with highlights including Picasso's Demoiselles
d'Avignon and Van Gogh's Starry night.
• The Vatican Museums, Rome – the highlight here is the
Sistine Chapel.
• The Prado, Madrid - Spanish masterpieces by Goya, El Greco
and Velazquez (whose Las Meninas is the best-known work of the museum).
• National Archaeology Museum, Athens - Its unrivaled
collection includes a bronze Artemision Podeidon from the 5th century B.C.
Have a fangtastic day my friends! <3 Brock V"""V
