BB 1/18/16

Good morning Phoenix! Monday has caught up with us again. *sighs* But, that means it is time for Movie Monday. Today’s selection is one that is still in theaters and has been nominated for an Oscar – The Revenant starring Leonardo DiCaprio, and Tom Hardy .

Plot: A frontiersman on a fur trading expedition in the 1820's fights for survival after being mauled by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team.

Trivia:
• Leonardo DiCaprio had to devour a raw slab of bison's liver, even though he is vegetarian. He also had to learn to shoot a musket, build a fire, speak two Native American languages (Pawnee and Arikara), and study with a doctor who specializes in ancient healing techniques. DiCaprio calls it the hardest performance of his career.
• Leonardo DiCaprio was originally approached to star in Steve Jobs (2015), but dropped out to do this film instead.
• Tom Hardy has stated that he doesn't read scripts. At one time, he was due to star in Splinter Cell (2017). He wanted to play a soldier in that film, but Leonardo DiCaprio begged him to read the script for this movie. Hardy read half the script and accepted the role.
• The true events that inspired this movie - and the book - were also the basis of Man in the Wilderness (1971).
• The bear mauling scene was filmed with Leonardo DiCaprio being tugged side to side with cables.

Goofs:
• The movie is based in the 1820s. On more than one occasion they refer to their long guns as "rifles". Rifled muskets were not in use until the late 1850's when they were called either "rifle muskets" or "rifled muskets".
• You can see a 'chopper' making waves on the river water when Leonardo escapes from the Indians by diving into the river.
• At the start when Leonardo D C (Glass) finishes urinating, he clearly zips up his trousers. Zips were not invented for another 50 years. 1820s compared to 1870s.
• In the end scene when the Indians on horses cross Glass who is sitting down in the snow near the stream, Glass' hair is unkempt and is over is face - the scene cuts to the Indian woman, and when it cuts back to Glass, his hair is parted in the middle - fairly neatly.
• When Glass is resting his head on his dead son, you can see his son's eyelids moving.

Have a fangtastic and warm day my friends! <3  Brock V"""V
