BB 9/6/16

Good morning Phoenix! It’s Tuesday, and most of us are back at the daily grind of life. Here’s hoping you have a great week. Now it’s time for some top 10 strange facts:
• A strawberry is not a berry, but a banana is. A berry is a fleshy fruit produced from the ovary of a single flower. Blueberries and tomatoes can be considered part of the berry family. Strawberries are known as an accessory fruit where their seeds are derived from the pistil of the flower.
• Babies can only see black and white when they’re born. Nerve cells in their retinas and brain that control vision are not fully developed at birth. Their eyes also do not have the ability to focus on near objects. As their color vision develops, babies will see red first, then they will see the full spectrum of colors by the time they reach 3 months old.
• According to ABC News, the average chocolate bar contains 8 insect pieces. The US Food and Drug Administration have guidelines in place for the maximum amounts that can be present and still be fit for human consumption.
• There are more stars in the sky than grains of sand in the world. Astronomers have predicted that there are over 100 billion galaxies in our universe. This means there are approximately 10 Sixtillion stars in our universe. It is predicted that there are approximately 5 Sixtillion grains of sand in all the beaches and deserts of our planet. I’m not going out to count them to prove them wrong.
• Humans completely replace their outer skin every month. Humans shed anywhere from ½ pound to 1.6 pounds of skin per year.
• Mosquitoes have killed more humans than all the wars in history. According to the World Health Organization, 1 million people die *each year* from mosquito borne diseases, with malaria, yellow fever, and encephalitis accounting for the majority. On the other hand, wars have killed about 100 million people.
• You’re twice as likely to be killed by a vending machine tipping over on you than by a shark.
• On Jupiter and Saturn, it rains diamonds. They eventually melt in the planet’s hot cores.
• For every human there is on earth, there are about 1.6 million ants. (Most of whom will show up at your next picnic)
• France was still executing people by guillotine until 1977. The last execution by guillotine was in September 1977. France practiced capital punishment from the middle ages until 1977.
Have a fangtastic Tuesday everyone! <3 Brock V"""V
