Happy TGIF Phoenix! How about a Friday Flicks? In honor of the sequel to The Blair Witch Project, which opens this weekend, let’s take a look back at the original.

Plot: Three film students travel to Maryland to make a student film about a local urban legend - The Blair Witch. The three went into the woods on a two-day hike to find the Blair Witch, and never came back. One year later, the students film and video were found in the woods. The footage was compiled and made into a movie. The Blair Witch Project.

Trivia:
• Heather Donahue's mother received sympathy cards from people who believed that her daughter was actually dead or missing.
• The directors kept in touch with actors Heather Donahue, Michael C. Williams and Joshua Leonard with walkie-talkies, to ensure the three would not become lost during their trek. Reportedly, they got lost at least three times.
• It took a mere eight days to shoot this film.
• The actors were given no more than a 35-page outline of the mythology behind the plot, before shooting began. All lines were improvised and nearly all the events in the film were unknown to the three actors beforehand, and they were often on-camera surprises to them all.
• Heather Donahue mentioned to Fangoria Magazine that her first question she asked the director, upon arriving on the set, was if he was planning on making a snuff film.

Goofs:
• The film supposedly takes place in 1994, but in the supermarket, Michael displays an oatmeal and raisin flavored PowerBar. Oatmeal and raisin was not available in 1994.
• At the beginning of the movie, when Josh is getting out of the car, a 1997-2003 Ford F-Series pickup can be seen in the background.
• When Josh goes missing and the two others are calling his name, Mike is wearing a plaid shirt with a white t-shirt underneath. When they change views his t-shirt is black. When they cut back it's white again.
• In the house a red light flash (from a camera) can be seen through an open window.
• The three are lost in the woods but in one scene, about 25 feet behind them, a field can be seen through a small gap in the trees. The road is also visible as they try to find the trail.

If you’ve seen this movie, what did you think of it? Do you plan to see the sequel?

6: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
5: The Shining

Good morning Phoenix!  It’s time for some Friday Flicks!  Here’s one that sounds quite promising, and is almost guaranteed to give Tom Hanks another Oscar.  It’s called “Sully” and premieres today in theaters.

Plot:  On Thursday, January 15th, 2009, the world witnessed the "Miracle on the Hudson" when Captain, Chesley Sullenberger, nicknamed "Sully" & is portrayed by Tom Hanks glided his disabled plane onto the frigid waters of the Hudson River, saving the lives of all 155 aboard. However, even as Sully was being heralded by the public and the media for his unprecedented feat of aviation skill, an investigation was unfolding that threatened to destroy his reputation and his career.

Trivia:
·         First collaboration between Clint Eastwood and Tom Hanks.
·         The film is based on the autobiography, "Highest Duty" that was co-written by Chesley Sullenberger and Jeffrey Zaslow, about the safe landing of US Airways Flight 1549 known as "Miracle on the Hudson", that occurred on Thursday, January 15th, 2009. The airplane lost engine power, after hitting a flock of Canada Geese during climb-out at approximately 2800ft AGL and 200 Nautical Miles Per Hour. Each of the two engines ingested at least two Canadian Geese (avg weight between 7-10lbs.) and neither engine was able to produce sufficient thrust to sustain flight afterwards. Capt Sullenburg was able to ditch the aircraft in the Hudson River, resulting in the survival of all on board.
·         This is the second time Tom Hanks has portrayed a real life person where the events took place in 2009. He previously portrayed Captain Phillips in 2013, who was taken hostage by Somali pirates in April 2009. The events in this film took place in January 2009.
·         This is Clint Eastwood's 35th theatrical motion picture as a director.
·         This is the second time Tom Hanks has played a real-life aviator, having also played astronaut Jim Lovell in Apollo 13 (1995).

There’s no known goofs yet.  Let us know if you spot any!

The first picture is the real Captain Sullenberger, and the other photo is Tom Hanks portraying him. Pretty good resemblance.

Good morning Phoenix! It’s Tuesday, and most of us are back at the daily grind of life. Here’s hoping you have a great week. Now it’s time for some top 10 strange facts:
• A strawberry is not a berry, but a banana is. A berry is a fleshy fruit produced from the ovary of a single flower. Blueberries and tomatoes can be considered part of the berry family. Strawberries are known as an accessory fruit where their seeds are derived from the pistil of the flower.
• Babies can only see black and white when they’re born. Nerve cells in their retinas and brain that control vision are not fully developed at birth. Their eyes also do not have the ability to focus on near objects. As their color vision develops, babies will see red first, then they will see the full spectrum of colors by the time they reach 3 months old.
• According to ABC News, the average chocolate bar contains 8 insect pieces. The US Food and Drug Administration have guidelines in place for the maximum amounts that can be present and still be fit for human consumption.
• There are more stars in the sky than grains of sand in the world. Astronomers have predicted that there are over 100 billion galaxies in our universe. This means there are approximately 10 Sixtillion stars in our universe. It is predicted that there are approximately 5 Sixtillion grains of sand in all the beaches and deserts of our planet. I’m not going out to count them to prove them wrong.
• Humans completely replace their outer skin every month. Humans shed anywhere from ½ pound to 1.6 pounds of skin per year.
• Mosquitoes have killed more humans than all the wars in history. According to the World Health Organization, 1 million people die *each year* from mosquito borne diseases, with malaria, yellow fever, and encephalitis accounting for the majority. On the other hand, wars have killed about 100 million people.
• You’re twice as likely to be killed by a vending machine tipping over on you than by a shark.
• On Jupiter and Saturn, it rains diamonds. They eventually melt in the planet’s hot cores.
• For every human there is on earth, there are about 1.6 million ants. (Most of whom will show up at your next picnic)
• France was still executing people by guillotine until 1977. The last execution by guillotine was in September 1977. France practiced capital punishment from the middle ages until 1977.
Have a fangtastic Tuesday everyone! <3 Brock V"""V

Good morning Phoenix! Hope you all are staying dry and safe if you are in the storm’s path, and that everyone is enjoying your weekend.

Thought I’d do something different this Saturday. How about some Wild Weekend Facts? Here we go…

• Carrots used to be purple. Purple was the norm, while yellow and white would appear in the wild. In the 17th Century, the colors morphed into the orange we know today. Purple carrots still exist, but they aren’t as sweet as orange ones.
• Cheese is the most commonly stolen food in the world. It’s in high demand, and costs are rising. It is small, and easy to conceal. Cheeses don’t contain anti-theft devices like some high priced items do.
• Fortune cookies are not Chinese. They were invented in the early 1900’s in San Francisco.
• Giraffes only need 5-35 minutes of sleep in a 24-hour period. They will achieve this by taking short naps throughout the day that last only a minute or two. As giraffes spend most of their time standing up, they will even sleep and give birth while standing.
• The National animal of Scotland is the Unicorn. It was believed that unicorns had immense strength.
• An octopus has three hearts. Two of them pump blood throughout the gills, and one pumps blood throughout the body. That one stops beating when an octopus swims, which explains why they prefer to crawl. It wears them out to swim.
• Honey is the only food that will never rot. The oldest sample of honey was found in an Egyptian tomb that dated back over 3000 years ago. It was still edible.
• Our peripheral vision is better at night.
• Each year, Southern California has about 10,000 earthquakes. Most are just too small to be felt.
• Mandarin is the most widely spoken language in the world. It is the official language of China and Taiwan, and is the first language of over 955 million people.

Have a fangtastic weekend everyone! <3 Brock V"""V
