BB 3/2/16

Good morning Phoenix and welcome to Hump Day, or as I prefer to call it, Wacky Wednesday. Today’s choice is something quite interesting.
Top 10 Movies that predicted the future:
• “The Truman Show” starring Jim Carrey – predicts the popularity of reality TV. In 1998, this comedy depicted a world where Truman’s every move was broadcast. This is eerily similar to the Kardashians and Big Brother. What once seemed like a sci-fi dystopia is now a staple of network programming.
• “War Games” starring Matthew Broderick – predicts cyber warfare, as Matthew portrays a hacker that gets into a US military computer, almost starting a nuclear war from his bedroom. This mirrors cyber-attacks causing government data breaches and hacking groups are international threats.
• “Videodrome” starring James Woods – predicts YouTube and violent viral films. Fast forward to the current day when videos of sex attacks and torture are only a click away if you know where to look, and the terror group ISIS posts execution videos.
• “Americathon” – Meant as comic relief, the film predicts the rise of China, the collapse of the USSR, Communist China embracing Capitalism, and Viet Nam rising from the war with the US to become a major tourist destination.
• “Wag the Dog” – Predicts a Presidential sex scandal and a convenient bombing to distract the media. It was released a year before the Monica Lewinsky affair. Three days after the scandal broke, the US Government bombed Afghanistan and Sudan, regulating the sex scandal to the background of the news.
• “Game of Death” and “Poltergeist” – “Game of Death” predicted the death of actor Brandon Lee, son of legendary martial arts master Bruce Lee. The senior Lee’s last film before his death, he portrayed an actor who fakes his own death after being shot on set during filming. Life mysteriously imitated art, when 20 years later, his son was accidentally shot and killed while filming a scene for “The Crow”. “Poltergeist” is thought to predict the death of young actress Heather O’Rourke. The film randomly includes a prop poster that advertises the 1988 Super Bowl, despite the event being 6 years away. Fast forward to the 1988 Super Bowl – 12 year old O’Rourke became ill and died of a cardiac arrest the next day. Similarly, Christopher Reeve seemed to predict his own paralysis after starring in the 1995 TV movie “Above Suspicion”, in which he plays a character who is confined to a wheelchair. Two days after the film was released, Reeves himself became paralyzed from the neck down following a horse riding accident.
• “Enemy of The State” – Predicts the NSA scandal. Will Smith’s spy thriller was thought to be an exaggerated depiction of the NSA’s capabilities, but Edward Snowden’s 2013 whistleblowing of their domestic and international surveillance programs proved that depiction of the NSA was probably more fact than fiction.
• “Super Mario Bros”/ "Terminator 2”/ “The Matrix” – all predicted 9/11. In “The Matrix”, a close up of Neo’s passport shows that it expires on 9/11/01. In “Terminator 2”, as the semi crashes into the bridge, the camera shows this across the bridge – “Caution - 9’ 11”. In “Super Mario Brothers”, toward the end of the film, two parallel dimensions emerge, causing the twin towers to disintegrate.
• “2001: A Space Odyssey” – predicts space tourism and artificial intelligence. The 1968 film features gadgets that resemble smartphones and artificial robots with soothing voices, not unlike Apple’s Siri. All predicted nearly 50 years ahead of time.
• “Back to the Future: Part 2” – predicts 3D cinema, flat screen TV’s, and video calls. Marty McFly travels from 1989 to 2015. We also see the use of eye and fingerprint scanning and high tech glasses not dissimilar to Google glasses.
Kinda spooky, eh?
Think about it, and have a fangtastic day my friends! <3  Brock V"""V
