BB 2/8/16

Good morning Phoenix and welcome to Movie Monday! Hope everyone has recovered from the big game and accompanying parties, or very rested up if you weren’t interested in the game! LOL

Continuing with the theme of Oscar nominees, this week’s selection is The Big Short, starring Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, and Brad Pitt.

Plot:
Four denizens in the world of high-finance predict the credit and housing bubble collapse of the mid-2000s, and decide to take on the big banks for their greed and lack of foresight.

Trivia:
• After meeting with Dr. Michael Burry, the character he would play in the movie, Christian Bale asked to have Burry's cargo shorts and T-shirt, which he then wore in the movie. Bale later said he hoped Burry would make it to the L.A. premiere, "because I really want to sit next to him and see if he's going to punch me in the fucking face."
• The character Mark Baum (Carrell) is based on the real-life money manager Steve Eisman. Jared Vennett (Gosling) is based on real-life trader Greg Lippmann. Ben Rickert (Pitt) is based on Ben Hockett. Charlie Gellar and Jamie Shipley (John Magaro and Finn Wittrock) are based on Charlie Ledley and Jamie Mai.
• Christian Bale does not share screen time with any of the other top-billed cast members.
• There are no special effects used for the left glass eye of Michael Burry. Christian Bale can rest one eye and move around with the other on command.
• At the end of the Vegas segment with the overhead shot of the freeway, you can see a homeless camp beneath the overpass as though it was an indicator of the future.

Goofs:
• While the guys are exploring one of the abandoned homes in Miami, a Ralphs Grocery Store circular is visible in the pile of junk mail. Ralphs are only found in Southern California.
• Various scenes for 2005 through 2008 showed "Empire Gold" variations of the New York State license plate. Empire Gold plates were not issued until 2010; The standard at that time was blue and white.
• When in Vegas, there is a man walking in the background holding a Bud Light Platinum, which was not released until 2012.
• When Mark talks to his wife on the phone, we can see a bus stop ad for the television show "Stitchers", which wasn't created till 2015.
• In a scene where the graphic states that it is "January 11th", people are seen walking around New York City dressed in only suits and dresses (no jackets, hats, or cold weather gear). Later, on the same day, someone is seen crossing the street wearing only shorts and a tee shirt.

Have you seen this movie? Tell us what you think.
Have a fangtastic day my friends! <3 Brock V"""V
