Pop Culture Trivia for May 17, 2014
Today's trivia is about the month of May.
► The month 'may' have been named for the Greek goddess Maia, who was identified with the Roman goddess of fertility, Bona Dea, whose festival was held in May.
► In Japan, there is a so-called 'May sickness', where new students or workers start to be tired of their new schoolwork or jobs. (In Japan school years and fiscal years start on April 1st).
► May is a character in the Merchant's Tale part of Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. May was young woman who married a 60 year-old knight Januarie. The name is thought to represent youth opposing her husband's old age. In the tale she weds the old knight but has an affair with his squire, who the Merchant indicates may be the true father of May and Januarie's child.

► The second Sunday in May is Mother's Day.
Joke of the Day:
There once was a gal named Lewinsky,
Who played music like a Stravinsky.
'Twas "Hail to the Chief"
On this flute made of beef
That stole the front page from Kaczynski.
Said Bill Clinton to young Ms. Lewinsky,
"We don't want to leave clues like Kaczynski.
Since you look such a mess,
Use the hem of your dress
And wipe that goo off of your chinsky."
Lewinsky and Clinton have shown
What Kaczynski must surely have known:
That an intern is better
Than a bomb in a letter
Given the choice of how to be blown.
(Sorry – couldn't resist since Ms. Lewinsky has been back in the news recently! LOL)
Quote of the Day:
The probability of meeting someone you know increases a hundredfold when you're with someone you're not supposed to be seen with. Anonymous
