8.6.13

Good morning Phoenix! Happy Birthday to all of us! Here's this morning's trivia:
1945: The first atomic bomb used in warfare was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan.
1965: President Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which outlawed the poll taxes and literacy tests that had restricted black voter registration in the South.
2012: Midnight Breed Phoenix was born!
In honor of the birthday celebration, today's version of strange laws will be birthday traditions instead.
Irish Birthday Traditions
Instead of getting a gentle pat on the head accompanied by a “Happy Birthday”, Irish children are held upside down by their parents who have them gently “bumped” on the floor for good luck . Crazy, you might think. But the number of such “bumps” is equivalent to the age of the child plus one for extra good luck. Happy bumpy birthday!
German Birthday Traditions
It is one of the many birthday conventions of Germany that when a man reaches the age of 30 and he is still single, he has to sweep the stairs of the city hall. However, when he has finished sweeping, all of his friends will throw more rubble on the stairs until a girl approaches him. We’re not sure if he enjoys his birthday but the cleaning lady at the city hall surely does!
Birthday Fun Facts
● October 5th is the most popular birthday in North America, meaning more babies were born on that day than any other.
● “Happy Birthday to You” was written by Patty Hill and Mildred J. Hill in 1893. Patty was a kindergarten principal and Mildred was a pianist and composer.
Enjoy your day and the festivities to come. Happy Birthday to all at Phoenix!
